NUTRITION MYTHS 2023 DEBUNKED




MYTH 1

GOING VEGETARIAN WILL BE HEALTHIER

Healthy vegetarian eating plan may be linked with lower levels of obesity, lower blood pressure and reduced risk of heart disease. Going vegetarian will only lead to weight loss due to reduced total number of calories. Sometimes vegetarians end up eating lot of sugars, fats and calories, lead to weight gain.

NOTE: Go vegetarian and follow a proper eating plan which covers the body's nutrient needs. Speak with Nutritionist / Dietitian, if you want to meet all nutrient needs.


MYTH 2

TO LOSE WEIGHT GIVE UP ALL FAVORITE FOODS.

You don't have to give up all of your favorite foods, during weight loss program. Small amount of high calorie foods can be part of the weight loss diet. Just check whether the total amount of calories you take in is less than the total calories you burn.

NOTE : Limiting high calorie foods helps you lose weight.


MYTH 3

AVOID GRAIN PRODUCTS AS IT IS FATTENING

Grain products are not fattening or unhealthy, choose whole grain over refined products Whole wheat products make you feel full and reduce high blood sugar as it is high in fiber.

NOTE: Include whole grains such as black rice, red rice, brown rice, unpolished rice, millets, whole wheat, barley and rye.


MYTH 4

AVOID ALL FATS IF YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT.

You don't have avoid fat if you want to become healthy or lose weight. Fat provide essential nutrients for body , plays an important role in maintaining hormone balance. You need to limit fats to avoid extra calories.

NOTE: Consider eating healthy fats like , nuts, cold pressed oils, avocado extra, but in lesser quantity.


MYTH 5

DAIRY PRODUCTS ARE FATTENING.

Dairy products provide milk protein(builds muscles) and calcium (strengthen bones). Calcium in turn helps you to maintain proper vitamin D levels in body.

NOTE: Adults should have 3 servings of milk products for proper calcium levels in body .
